We often get asked if travel insurance is necessary.

Good question! Keep reading to find out, or click directly on the button below to benefit from a 5% discount* if you do need a travel insurance.

So, do you need a travel insurance?

Well, it varies. If you've snagged budget-friendly flights, booked accommodations with flexible cancellation policies, and you're an EU citizen traveling within the EU, you might opt out of travel insurance.

Given that you'll have your EU insurance card to cover any medical issues, you might decide to take the risk and not book cancellation coverage.

However, if your trip is on the pricier side and involves travel overseas, expensive tours and/or non-refundable accommodations, we highly recommend investing in travel insurance, covering both cancellation and health concerns.

It’s particularly wise in destinations like the US, where a simple doctor visit can rack up hefty bills.

Consider exploring platforms like Heymondo for reasonably priced insurance packages tailored to your needs. Plus, as an exclusive offer for Penguin Trampoline, our readers can benefit from a 5% discount*!

What are the benefits of travel insurance?

Medical emergencies

If you become ill or injured while traveling, especially in a foreign country where healthcare costs can be high, travel insurance can cover your medical expenses — including hospital stays, emergency medical evacuation, and repatriation.

Did you know?

Some hazardous activities, like snowmobiling in harsh conditions, require travel insurance to be booked.

Trip cancellation or interruption

Life is unpredictable and sometimes, unforeseen circumstances may force you to cancel or cut your trip short. Travel insurance can reimburse you for non-refundable trip costs due to covered reasons such as illness, injury, natural disasters, pandemics or other emergencies.

When we resumed traveling in 2021, we made sure to book a policy covering COVID-19.

Travel delays

If your trip is delayed due to reasons beyond your control, such as weather, airline strikes, or mechanical issues, travel insurance can compensate you for additional expenses such as accommodations, meals, and transportation.

Emergency assistance

Many travel insurance policies offer 24/7 emergency assistance services, providing help with medical referrals, translation services, legal assistance, and other emergency support while traveling.
