Best Sea View Hotels Near Lisbon

Quiet coast, real views, and still close to the capital for a weekend getaway

Our favorite hotel in Portugal — keep reading to find out which one!

Not everyone flying into Lisbon wants Lisbon.

Some people land, pick up a rental car, and drive straight toward the ocean —looking for cliffs, space, silence, and a hotel room where the sea isn’t a suggestion but the whole point. If that’s you (welcome to the club!), good news: you don’t need to go far, and you definitely don’t need a resort bracelet.

So, if you big windows over nightlife and landscapes over lobby bars, keep reading and discover some of our favorites hotels with sea views near Lisbon.

Oh, and a Portugal travel guidebook is worth packing, even if our tips are fab!

Plan your escape near Lisbon: where to stay and things to do:

How far is “near Lisbon,” really?

For the most impressive sea views, “near Lisbon” usually means 30 minutes to 2 hours by car. That’s the sweet spot where:

  • flights are easy

  • crowds thin out fast

  • landscapes get dramatic

  • accommodation quality jumps

Think south of Lisbon, the Sintra coast, and further down the wild west coast.

Penguin Trampoline tip:

If you want amazing sea views at genuinely good prices, aim for low season — especially October. When we travelled then, the weather was still surprisingly warm and bright, the coast felt calm again, and accommodation prices dropped hard. We booked beautiful hotels and alojamento local with sea views for as little as 60 €/night.

How to choose (quick logic)

  • Closest + wild → Sintra coast

  • Closest + calmer → Arrábida / Sesimbra

  • Quietest & most spacious → Tróia Peninsula / Sines Coast

  • Most dramatic (and our favorite) → Ericeira & Nazaré

🐬 Along Portugal’s coast, you’ll often see pods of dolphins surfing the waves. If you want to stay connected to the ocean and remember your ocean views after your trip, Fahlo’s Dolphin Bracelet supports marine research and lets you follow a real dolphin’s journey in the Atlantic.

Closest to Lisbon: the Sintra Coast (30–45 minutes)

Can you imagine a more picturesque town than this? Azenhas do Mar

The Sintra coast is the fastest way to swap Lisbon for raw Atlantic scenery. Weather is moody, light is dramatic, and the sea feels close — sometimes very close.

🏨 Arribas Sintra Hotel — Praia Grande

A classic, and for good reason.

Why it works:

  • Literally above the ocean

  • Large sea-facing windows

  • Reliable, professional, easy logistics

If someone searches “sea view hotel near Lisbon”, this is exactly what they imagine.

🏨 Casal Santa Virginia — Colares

Casal Santa Virginia is an absolute gem.

An old mansion overlooking the sea, it feels especially magical in fog, rain, or moody weather — the kind of place that makes stormy nights feel intentional. We stayed in the Golden Room, and the bathroom had clearly been beautifully renovated since the Booking photos — a rare and very welcome surprise.

Breakfast is a highlight: homemade pastries and cakes, served in a veranda overlooking the sea. Warm staff, cozy rooms, and a sense of calm that makes you think, we could stay here for weeks.

This isn’t polished luxury. It has soul — and incredible value for what you get. What drove us to Azenhas area was our accommodation, which was one of the most unique places we ever stayed at.

Find awesome places to stay and things to do in Sintra region:

South of Lisbon: Arrábida & Sesimbra (40–50 minutes)

Sunrise over Sesimbra from our rental apartment

South of Lisbon, the coast softens slightly. Arrábida brings limestone cliffs and sheltered coves, while Sesimbra adds comfort and accessibility (and some of the best pasteis de nata we ever had).

🏨 Sesimbra Hotel & Spa — Sesimbra

One of the easiest, most practical sea-view stays near Lisbon.

Why it works:

  • Many rooms with direct sea views

  • On the beach, not “near” it

  • Comfortable without resort energy

Ideal for short stays or first-time Portugal trips.

Pasteis de nata with a view

You can’t visit Portugal without eating pastéis de nata.

And they’re even better with a sea view!

🏨 Hotel do Mar — Sesimbra

Older in style, excellent in position.

Why we like it:

  • Elevated views over the bay

  • Quiet at night

  • Very good value outside peak summer

A solid choice if views matter more than design trends.

🏨 Casa Palmela — near Arrábida

Ok, I can already hear you say: but there are no sea views! True, but worth including for travelers who want luxury, space, nature, and calm, with the sea close by.

Elegant, quiet, and well placed for exploring Arrábida’s coves and viewpoints.

Further south, still within 2 hours: Tróia Peninsula & Sines Coast

If you have time and keep driving south towards Costa Vicentina, you’ll find some of the wildest sea views and beaches Portugal has to offer

This stretch works because it combines direct Atlantic exposure with easier access than Costa Vicentina (although, we do recommend it if you have time, and we included it in our favorite hidden beaches in Portugal). You still get horizon, light, and wind — just without a three-hour drive.

🏨 Troia Design Hotel — Tróia

This one is non-negotiable if we’re being strict about sea views.

Why it works:

  • Floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Atlantic

  • Many rooms with direct, unobstructed sea views

  • Modern, well-run, consistently bookable on Booking

It’s one of the closest places south of Lisbon where sea view actually means sea view, not “you can glimpse water between buildings”.

Best for:

  • couples

  • shoulder season

  • travelers who want comfort without resort chaos

🏨 Pestana Tróia Eco-Resort — Tróia

More spread out, but several units have clear views toward the ocean.

Why it works:

  • Quiet, nature-forward setting

  • Direct beach access

  • Strong option for longer stays

This suits travelers who want space and sea, not nightlife. The setting is honestly gorgeous.

🏨 Sines Sea View Business & Leisure Hotel — Sines

The name says it all… The hotel sits facing the bay, and when you book an ocean-facing room, the Atlantic is right there — no roads, no buildings, no creative angles.

Why it works:

  • Clear, direct views over the sea and harbour

  • Modern, comfortable rooms without unnecessary frills

  • Easy access if you’re driving south from Lisbon

It’s more practical than romantic, but that’s not a flaw. This is a solid choice for travelers who care about the view from the room, want calm evenings, and don’t need a picture-perfect village outside the door.

Further north (still within 2 hours): Ericeira & Nazaré

Nazaré is even prettier with moody weather — View from our alojamento local!

If you’re willing to drive north of Lisbon, the coast gets louder — visually and emotionally.

Ericeira

Surf town energy with dramatic cliffs and strong sea presence, especially outside summer.

Nazaré

Made famous by big-wave surfer Garrett McNamara (learn more in our Nazaré travel guide) but still retaining its local charm, Nazaré has our hearts.

The cliffs above Praia do Norte deliver some of the most impressive sea views in Portugal, especially in rough weather.

FAQ: Sea view hotels near Lisbon

Do all rooms in these hotels have sea views?
No. In most hotels, only certain room categories face the sea. To guarantee the view, always book a room clearly labelled sea view or ocean view on Booking.

How far are these sea view hotels from Lisbon Airport?
Most of the hotels listed are between 30 minutes and 2 hours from Lisbon Airport by car, depending on the coastal area.

Do I need a car to stay at these sea view hotels?
Yes. A car is strongly recommended. Public transport is limited along the coast, and having your own wheels makes everything — from check-in to beach access — far easier.

When is the best time to book sea view hotels near Lisbon?
May, June, and September usually offer the best balance of light, availability, and prices. In July and August, sea view rooms sell out quickly, so booking early is essential.

Here’s a playlist for your Portuguese adventure.

These hotels aren’t about trends or buzzwords. They’re about location doing the work — cliffs, wind, light, and the Atlantic reminding you to slow down.

If that’s what you’re after, you don’t need Lisbon at all.
You just need the right road out of it.
